Rive went on to say that Tesla’s solar business has “stalled” in recent months, and that SolarCity is now “forced to compete with Tesla” for customers.
It’s an unusually critical letter from one of Tesla’s key partners, and it highlights the challenges the company faces in trying to bring its ambitious energy products to market.
The Solar Roof was first unveiled in 2016, and Tesla has since installed the product on a handful of homes. The company had hoped to ramp up production in 2018, but that has not yet happened.
